My name is Lois Ei-kojonwa Ugbede but my friends call me Kojo which led to the name of my brand makeupbykojo.
I am 22 years old. I am a journalist and a makeup artist currently running my M.Sc programme in Mass Communication.
I have never seen writing as an area I would take up in journalism after my degree because I am more of a talker but the opportunity came to write for a reputable online newspaper and I took it to learn how to write and face my fear of writing.
So far i am not on that good writer spot but I enjoy writing now and I am better at writing than I was two years ago.
Makeup for me was a thing of passion even though I didn’t get the support of family. My family is a religious one that does not have an open mind to makeup or makeup artists so it was an issue when I showed interest in that area but I did not let that stop me. I taught myself to do makeup from watching others do it – physically and on tutorial videos, and practicing on myself and friends. It has been a lovely journey without any form of support I squeezed out money from my allowance in school to get the necessary makeup products I needed to practice.
Up till date I have not regretted that step and believing in myself no matter what.
So recently seeing work was taking a toll on me and I am not getting jobs yet since I am not a popular makeup artist, I decided to put some aspect of my trade (makeup) into my job like writing on the art of makeup or reviewing makeup products/brands and I think this will be an opportunity for me to explore that.
My Instagram and Facebook page is @makeupbykojo.
